Education
There have some exchanges of scholars and professors between the two countries. Two professors from the NSD visited Colombia in August 2003 and conducted a two week theater workshop for the Colombian professors and students. Prof. S. P. Ganguly from the Center of Spanish Studies in JNU visited Colombia in October 2004 under ICCR’s Distinguished Visitor’s Program and held conferences in some universities on topics of political, social and cultural interest.
From the Colombian side, Juan Monsalve who is a professor of dramatic arts at the National University as well as in the Javeriana University and Brenda Polo who is a dance professor at the Javeriana University traveled to India many times and in 2004 visited India by availing of the ICCR sponsorship. Juan Monsalve has written a book on his travels to India called “Cronicas de la India” that won a prize in Colombia.
Mr. Pio Garcia, Prof. of International Relations at the Externado University and Prof. Mauricio Martinez, Prof. of Arts at both the Externado and the Los Andes Universities have good knowledge about India especially on issues relating to music and theater
Prof. Enrique Posada Cano of the Jorge Tadeo Lozano University has launched a section called the Asia Pacific Observatory in his University Website www.utadeo.edu.co where he regularly posts many interesting articles on India. Eminent naturalist Andres Hurtado Garcia has wide collections of slides on India and has delivered many lectures on Indian history. German Puyana has written a book on India and has a good personal collection of Indian art.
Although India has many educational institutions of world repute, there have been relatively few exchanges of students mainly because of language difficulties. The list of leading educational institutions in India can be obtained from the following website:

ITEC
“Every year, 20 scholarships are granted to professionals in various disciplines from Colombia. The applicants can get information and application forms through the Ministries of Education and External Relations of Colombia or approach the Embassy in Bogotá which interviews them before recommending their names for the scholarship.

Interested persons should apply, in the prescribed form through their own Ministries/Departments or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs which will recommend the application to the Embassy of India in Bogotá.
The employees and officials of the Government, Public Sector Enterprises, Universities and Chambers of Commerce and Industry are eligible to apply for Scholarships under the ITEC program.
The applicant must be well conversant in English language to be able to follow the course. He/she should be in good health and certificate to this effect must be provided as per the application form given below.
Applications will be sent to the training institutes in India which will scrutinize the applications of the candidates and eligibility from the technical point of view including educational qualification and work experience. The final decision for grant of scholarship rests with the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India.
Upon selection, the Indian Embassy in Bogotá would inform the concerned authorities. The Indian Embassy will brief the selected candidates about the training Program in India and will also provide an economy/tourist class return air ticket to the candidates for their travel to India. Strict conditions are attached to ensure that candidates go through the full course and conform to the requirements and time table of the institution concerned.
ICCR
The Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) awards scholarships for regular courses of higher studies to candidates in countries which have a bilateral Cultural Exchange Program with India. Two such scholarships are therefore awarded to Colombian nationals per year. The scholarship is awarded in almost all the disciplines of regular study of classical dance, music, fine arts, etc. in India. For details of the courses and scholarships, please contact the Embassy.
