On the 6th and 7th of November 2010, the Embassy of India in Colombia and the 'Asociación Amigos de India-Colombia' organized the first ever 'Diwali Mela' in Bogotá. This celebration was hosted on the terrace of the commercial center 'Gran Estación', one of the most visited commercial centers in Bogotá.

Members of the Embassy of India, the Indian community in Colombia as well as friendly Indians  and Colombians, enjoyed the "festival of lights mela". The festival was officially inaugurated by the Ambassador of India Shri Riewad Warjri at 5 p.m. on 6 November followed by a 'Diwali Rumba', where Colombians and Indians came on stage to dance to the Indian beats. More than 3,000 people visited the pavilion.

Dances which included Bharatanatyam, Bhangra and Bollywood, besides Indian food, textiles, handicrafts,  jewelry, and a special exhibition of Indian art which included big sculptures and paintings were part of the program.

One of the main attractions of Diwali Mela was the 'Indian Fashion Show' presented on Sunday afternoon, that showcased outifts from Punjab, Kerala, Rajasthan and the different ways of draping the saree from different parts of India.

This event was widely covered in both print & electronic media.  This event helped to project a diverse culture of India.

The fashion show attracted a big crowd.
