Colombian Minister of Energy and Mines visits India

Mr. Hernan Martinez Torres, Minister of Energy and Mines of Colombia visited India 4-6 September, 2008 accompanied by Mr. Armando Zamora, National Director for Hydrocarbons of Colombia.

The Minister had an important meeting with the Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas of India, Shri Murli Deora, on 5 September at which the Indian presence and interest in Colombia’s hydrocarbons sector was extensively discussed.  The two Ministers signed a Memorandum of Understanding for cooperation in the hydrocarbons sector, which will take the collaboration still further.

During his visit, Minister Martinez also met with the Indian Minister of State for Mines, Shri B.K. Handique, where they discussed the interest of Indian companies in the mining sector in Colombia and the extensive potential that exists particularly in coal, iron ore, precious stones and other minerals.

Minister Martinez also had a meeting with the Minister of State for External Affairs of  India, Shri Anand Sharma, at which a range of bilateral relations was discussed.  Minister Martinez met with Indian businessmen, media and others of the Group Tequendama at a meeting organized by the Embassy of Colombia in Delhi.
