Foreign Minister of Ecuador Visits India
Foreign Minister of the Republic of Ecuador, Ms. Maria Isabel Salvador, visited India at the invitation of Foreign Minister of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee, 16-17 November, 2008.
The Minister held bilateral discussions with Foreign Minister Shri Pranab Mukherjee on 17 November and, in the presence of both Ministers, both governments signed a Memorandum of Understanding to enhance cooperation in agriculture, as well as a Cultural Exchange Programme for the years 2009 to 2011.
Discussions between the Ministers covered bilateral relations as well as the current and the ongoing situation in the international context. Ecuador and India have an excellent bilateral relationship and a close coincidence of views in the United Nations and other multilateral organizations. Both Ministers looked forward to the visit of the President of Ecuador Dr. Rafael Correa.
Foreign Minister Maria Isabel Salvador also called on the Minister of Defence of the Republic of India, Shri A.K. Antony and discussed bilateral contacts in this area. Both Ministers discussed the forthcoming delivery of the seven Dhruv helicopters to be supplied to the Ecuadorian Air Force by the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, a public sector company of India.
Foreign Minister Maria Isabel Salvador also had brief meetings with Indian businessmen and confirmed that Ecuador will be enhancing the strength of its Embassy in New Delhi with a Commercial Representative and an Attache to look after defence matters.
