Mahatma Gandhi's bust in Medellin

The innauguration of the Mahatma Gandhi's bust at the Museum of Memory at Bicentenario Park will take place on May 21 2013 at 5:00 pm. The cityhall of Medellín and the Embassy ofIndia have installed the bust, with the help of the Honorary Indian Consulate in Medellín.  The bust was donated by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations ICCR and was brought directly from India.

CoIn Awards 2011

 The CoIn  awards 2011 ceremony took place on December 15th 2011 at the Embassy of India. These awards recognise the top Colombian importers of Indian products.  The ceremony was attended by delegates of the recognised companies, members of the India - Colombia Chamber of Commerce, officers from the Embassy, businessmen and media. Colombian Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs visits India

The Vice Foreign Minister Monica Lanzetta Mutis, met with a group of Indian businessmen interested in investing in Colombia, The Vice minister talked about investment opportunities in Colombia. The meeting was attended by the CEOs of the companies in chemical, fertilizer, mining, energy, hydrocarbons and hospitality services. viz. Hinduja Group , Punj Lloyd Group, Ell Bee Hospitality Worldwide, United Phosphorus and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce - FICCI.

Commerce Secretary of India visits Colombia

On August  30th &  31st  2011, Commerce Secretary of India, Shri  Rahul Khullar visited Bogotá along with a business delegation from the Engineering Export Promotion Council of India EEPC, lead by its president Shri Aman Chadha, which also participated in a Buyer-Seller meet organised by the Embassy of India in Bogotá. Secretary Khullar called on several Colombian dignitaries such as the Vice Minister of IT Mrs.  Carolina Hoyos Turbay and the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Mrs.  Mónica Lanzetta.  The visit was  a success and was covered by several local media.   On the evening of August 30th  the Embassy of India hosted a reception in honor of the Commerce Secretary and his delegation.

Scholarships to Colombia

The Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Government of India, has set aside two educational and cultural scholarships for Colombia for the year 2012-13.  Any Colombian student wishing to undergo undergraduate or post graduate/research studies in any recognized Universities in India can apply before March 28, 2012 to this Embassy after passing the English language test, as the medium of instruction would be English.  The scholarships include for studies in any faculty, including acting, direction and production design, TV, screenplay writing, etc. at the Film and Television Institute of India, in addition to undergraduate studies in Ayurvedic or Homeopathic medicine. New India Visa Application Centre

Visa Services of the Embassy of India, Bogota, have been outsourced w.e.f. 17th August 2011.  The India Visa Application Centre has been inaugurated by H.E. Mr. R.V. Warjri on 17th August 2011, at the Aviatur's corporate office, at Calle 81 # 19 A – 18,Piso 5 Bogotá, Colombia. VFS Global-Aviatur Ltda have been given the visa outsourcing services contract for three years.  Simultaneously India Visa Application Centres have started functioning in Cali, Medellin and Cartagena.  Visa applicants can deposit their visa requests at one of the Centres ne [ … ]

Foreign Office Consultations: India & Colombia

H.E. Mr. Vivek Katju, Secretary (West), visited Colombia from July 9 to 12, 2011, and co-chaired the meeting of Foreign Office Consultations with Colombia alongwith Dr. Mónica Lanzetta, Vice Minister of External Relations at the Palacio de San Carlos, on July 11 2011.  Discussions were related to further strenghtening of bilateral, multilateral, economic & cultural relations between the two countries, including bilateral investments.  Mr. Katju later delivered a lecture on "India´s Role in Latin America & Caribbean Region in 21st Century [ … ]

India & Colombia sign Double Taxation Avoiding Agreement

On 13 May 2011, India  signed a Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement (DTAA) with the Republic of Colombia for the avoidance of double taxation and for the prevention of fiscal evasion with respect to taxes on income. The Agreement was signed by Shri Sudhir Chandra, Chairman, Central Board of Direct Taxes on behalf of the Government of India and by Mr. Juan Alfredo Pinto Saavedra, Ambassador of the Republic of Colombia to India, on behalf of the Republic of Colombia.

MoS for External Affairs visits Ecuador

Mr. E. Ahamed, Minister of State for External Affairs visited Quito, Ecuador from April 30 – May 3, 2011 for the Third India-Ecuador Foreign Office Consultations.
The Minister was received by Vice President of Ecuador Mr. Lenin Marino, he had meetings with Foreign Minister, Defence Minister, Vice Minster for Trade and Industry,  in addition to having discussions with the Vice Minister for External Relations.  An MoU on Defence Cooperation was signed with Ecuador during the visit.

Minister of Mines of India visits Colombia

Hon’ble Minister of State For Mines Shri Dinsha J. Patel visited Colombia from May 1st to May 4th, accompanied by a 7-member delegation, including  representatives of National Mineral Development Cooperation, Hindustan Copper Limited., Geological Survey of India & MECL

India donated US $ 1 million to Colombia

On January 18, 2011, Ambassador R.V. Warjri handed over a letter to the First Lady, Maria Clemencia Rodrigues de Santos, wife of President Juan Manuel Santos.  The letter conveyed the donation by the Government of India to Colombia an amount of US$1 million as contribution to the relief efforts due to the floods which devastated parts of Colombia during the last few months.  The First Lady is also the Patron of Colombia Humanitaria which coordinates the relief efforts.
