Ambassador of India presents credentials to President of Costa Rica

Ambassador of India, Mr. Deepak Bhojwani, presented Letters of Credence signed by President of India, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam accrediting him as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Costa Rica to H.E. Mr. Oscar Arias Sanchez, President of Costa Rica on 29th May, 2007.
President Arias recalled his personal visit to India fondly and spoke of Mahatma Gandhi as an apostle of peace.  President Arias also recalled excellent relations between India and Costa Rica, and the importance of India for Costa Rica which led to the process for setting up an Embassy of Costa Rica in New Delhi.
Ambassador also called on the Foreign Minister, Mr. Bruno Stagno and the Minister for Government, Mr. Rodrigo Arias and discussed political, economic and cultural relations.  Costa Rica has supported India in several United Nations’ elections and bilateral trade has improved considerably.
India has offered 12 technical scholarships to Costa Rican candidates and plans to hold a Festival of India in Costa Rica shortly.  The Costa Rican authorities also expressed interest in India’s prowess in information technology.
