Ambassador of India visits Cali
The Ambassador of India, Shri Deepak Bhojwani, visited Cali 14-16 April, 2008 and called on the newly elected Mayor and Governor of Cali.
The Mayor Mr. Jorge Ivan Ospina Gomez honoured the Ambassador with a Citation of the City and discussed cultural and social projects in Cali which could be of interest to India.
The Office of the Governor also saw interesting discussions on possibility of investments in the State of Valle del Cauca; collaboration in social projects such as Jaipurfoot; utilization of technical scholarships by the youth of the State, etc.
The Ambassador delivered the opening lecture of seminar on ‘Three Elephants of Asia: India, China and Japan’ organized by the University Santiago of Cali 16-18 April. The theme of the Ambassador’s discourse was “Democracy and Development in India in the context of its relations with Latin America”. The Ambassador had extensive discussions with the Rector and the faculty of the University Santiago of Cali and was interviewed by the Rector Mr. Herberth Celin Navas.
The Ambassador also had a meeting with the Cali Chamber of Commerce, which threw up several suggestions for collaboration, particularly the possible participation of businessmen from the region in the India International Trade Fair in November, 2008. The Ambassador also had extensive meetings with Cali business houses, particularly, FANALCA Group, which won a contract for garbage collection in Chennai, India in 2007 and has extensive collaboration with vehicle manufactures in India.
